Adult Sunday School
Winter 2012
All classes are on the 3rd floor between the Sanctuary and Founders Hall.
SEASONS OF FAITH Adult Center - "Bells" end.
Primarily composed of adults with school age children, youth, or "empty nesters", the class explores a range of topics, often controversial,
with the avowed purpose of becoming familiar with the approaches of all sides to an issue.
The class is primarily discussion led by Robert Thomson, a Columbia Seminary graduate.
Seasons of Faith Sunday school class begins a new study of Richard Foster's Freedom of Simplicity.
Freedom of Simplicity articulates a creative, more human style of living and points the way for Christians to make their lives "models of simplicity."
Foster provides a way to rethink our priorities and to "seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness."
He shows us how to live in harmony with the rich complexity of life while stressing the relation of simplicity to prayer,
solitude, and all the Christian Disciplines. Join us as we explore the double reality from an old Shaker hymn:
"Tis a gift to be simple, "Tis a gift to be free.
BIBLE SAMPLER Library
Participants are "empty nesters" and older adults, but all ages are welcome. The class focuses on scripture for in-depth and detailed study, interpretation and understanding. The choice of scriptures often tracks Wednesday Bible studies, or the Common Lectionary which is often the foundation of scriptures used in worship.
Current study: Jeremiah
WOMEN'S FAITH AND LIFE - Across the hall from Adult Center.
Participants are women of all ages. Study topics generally derive out of one or more published works addressing women's
issues and Scripture.
The God Who Hears by Bingham Hunter "If God really cared he would answer my prayer." "I hesitate to ask God anything." "I can't understand why he continues to ignore my deepest needs." Recognizing that most believers have these thoughts from time to time, this class will look at prayer from the standpoint of who God is for the true aim of prayer is intimacy with God. Hunter answers questions about prayer by directing us to the nature and attributes of God and to our own lives.
TOPIC CLASS - Adult Centere - Kitchen end.
