Mexico Mission Trip

Each summer for the past 20 years, Eastminster has sent an intergenerational team of volunteers to Piedras Negras, Mexico, where they work with "Constructores Para Cristo" to build a house, from foundation to roof, for an impoverished family. The trip is a spiritual, physical, and emotional retreat from your average week. The highlight of this one week's effort is the presentation of the keys of a finished house to a family that has waited anxiously, and worked shoulder to shoulder with us to build. Often, in addition to house-building, Eastminster sends a team of medical and dental professionals as a parallel mission to the CPC Juanita Browsher Clinic in Piedras Negras.

This week is a life-changing experience for all that go. Many have found the experience so spiritually challenging and inspiring that they have returned at least once in subsequent years. The costs of transportation (airfare), lodging and meals are covered by fees paid by participants (for 2010: $700 each). The cost of materials and other incidental expenses for construction are generously contributed by Eastminster members and alumnae/alumni of past years' trips.

It is truly a glimpse of God's grace to see a team of a dozen or so people complete a house and move-in its first occupants in only a week. All the more is God's grace visible in the faces of children, sometimes adults, receiving the first dental or other medical care of their lives. No one, Mexican or American, ends the week as the same person, for the experience of God's abundant grace is truly transforming.
